The Soldier - Rick Serrenti

Wow. I don't know how I'm going to write in words how incredible this book was. Everything from the plot to the writing was nothing short of perfection. It kept me guessing until the very end, and the journey to it was full of laughter, tears, and many "WHAAAAAAAAATs."

I highly recommend this amazing tale of love, courage, and learning what it means to be a soldier for yourself and for others.

Heartwrenching, amazing...wow.

Wow....follow David on his journey of ......life. This book made me reminisce of high school, the prom and young love.

David decides to join the military after 9/11. He has a bit of an accident on the way to training and this seals his military career and sends him spiraling.

David's past holds some haunting things that at one point made him feel empty and alone. After his injury he falls back into this feeling again.

There is some drug addiction and this hit home for me, due to family members who suffered with this as well. So reading about his path and the things he went through really hit me.

I will say the ending was not at all what I expected, however I was wondering if that's what was happening. But I will not elaborate further as to not spoil anything more than I may have already. But I will say holy wow...have you ever read a book that just sticks with you? No? Well then, read this one. Maybe it was the emotional connection I had with David for all he'd been through, but I was moved to tears and emotionally, I felt what he was going through. Incredible writing.

Good story

This is the coming of age story of David Matthews.... from his earliest memories to current time. How every choice you make has a hand in how your life goes.

David comes from a close knit and loving family. Life isn't always easy or loving. Sometimes people aren't who they say they are, including David. What happens when David is injured and no longer has direction?? Can he find his way back to his loving family?? Or is it too late?

It's a quick read, could use some polishing, but is a good story. As a debut novel it kept me engaged and trying to figure out what was going to happen next. David is relatable and grows as a character. He makes mistakes as we all do.

I was not prepared for the ending and was shocked.
